Creative Porch Rug! Your Own Style!

Creative Porch Rug! Your Own Style!

There’s no need for complicated patterns, just use the existing wood planks of the porch floor as a painting guide for the stripes. Special porch and floor paint holds up to heavy foot traffic.

First prepare the wood surface by using a wire brush or scraper to remove chipped or peeling paint. Sand old or repaired wood. Clean the surface (Warning: Old paint may contain lead. Go to epa.gov/lead to learn more).

Determine the size of your rug and use painter’s tape to outline the perimeter of your design. Prime any bare wood with an enamel undercoating  and then let dry for 24 hours. Apply base coat over the designated area, and then let dry for 24 hours. Using the planks as guides, paint the stripes. Let dry for 24 hours and wait at least 7 days before washing.  Play with it, mix and match do whatever you want! If you feel a little loss on the color combinations, don’t forget the color wheel is your friend!

Add color and charm to porch floors with a painted rug. It’s so easy when you use the existing wood planks of the porch floor as a painting guide for the stripes. For durability, be sure to use porch and floor paint. Create your own rug palette or choose one of ours: We used a “sorbet” palette to complement the retro furniture in our “Porch Perfect” makeover. Our “tropical” palette has a breezy, island feel with vivid pink and green. Warm blues and sunny yellow star in our “nautical” palette, while earthy browns and greens add an organic feel to our “natural” palette.
